Grantham Civic Society is part of Civic Voice. Formed over 50 years ago, we are concerned with ensuring the historic market town of Grantham with its fine red brick buildings is enhanced, preserved and adapts to the needs of the residents and businesses in the 21st Century.

Grantham Civic Society has a Planning Committee which looks at planning applications within the town boundary which affect buildings or open spaces of note.

We try to encourage reuse of redundant buildings, sympathetic renovation and good new design. Our Awards Scheme looks at New Build, Shop fronts, Building Renovation and Environmental enhancement and recognises good design and sustainability.

Rivercare is a sub group with its membership dedicated to the practical aspects of cleaning out rubbish from the river, enhancing the landscape for wildlife and people.

Grantham has been identified as a Government Growth Point and its population is set to expand dramatically by 2030. Grantham Civic Society is consulted by South Kesteven District Council and has met with English Heritage on the growth implications to the heritage of the town.

Digital Archive

Work is progressing well on identifying images from the Civic Society's large photographic archive. Workshops held throughout last tear proved both popular with locals and informative in terms of identifying buildings and building an historical picture of the town in former days.

The next task will be to collate the information against the images and produce this in a digital format, so that interested parties might locate and look up a particular street / building from a given period in time.

Members wishing to purchase a digital copy of one of the 'taster' images (go to the grey 'Gallery' Tab above and then to the 'Photo Archive' heading once on the Gallery Page) can do so for an administrative fee of £2.00 per image  via cheque or cash only  from the Secretary - secretary@granthamcivicsociety.co.uk

All images WILL BE SENT DIGITALLY for you to print at your leisure.

These images are subject to copyright and are for personal use only and not to be shared. Any permissions need to be sought from the Society via the secretary (email above)

The ultimate aim is to create a data base which members and other interested parties will be able to access from the web site. Once this is achieved the facility to use PayPal or credit/debit card will be made  available.
